Motives of the French army vandalism in Russia in 1812

The article studies motives behind the French soldiers and officers’ acts of vandalism

during the aggressive campaign to conquer Russia in 1812. The scientists reveal the

attitude of the French society and Napoleon himself to religion and the church on the eve

of the French revolution. The authors have come to the conclusion that the influence of

the French was predetermined not by disrespect of strange spiritual values, but rather by

the time and the environment which they had come from. This environment and time can

be referred to as – one word only – revolution.
