Culture philosophy features of the Russian non-academic
Neo-Kantianism: F.A. Stepun and S.I. Hessen

The author has analysed peculiar features of culture philosophy characteristic of the
Russian non-academic Neo-Kantianism, explicitly presented in works by F.A. Stepun and
S.I. Hessen. Following the German predecessors the Russian Neo-Kantians believe the
central problem of philosophy of culture to be the problem of values. They treat this
problem in different ways. While backing up the union of “philosophy with expertise”
they believe it is necessary “for the philosophical thought to absorb all the plenitude of
expertise motives as well as motives of all other cultural fields: public, arts, religion.
