The article deals with the issue of nuclear disarmament in contemporary Russian histori-
ography. The author points out the three main branches of studying the genesis and de-
velopment of the problem, which depend on the specific character of researchers' scien-
tific background and the fact of being involved in consulting governmental bodies. A his-
torical outlook is shown in relation to other social, technical and military sciences, as
well as national features of managing the disarmament in the USSR/Russia and the Unit-
ed States. The article gives an insight into the correlation between disarmament, non-
proliferation and development of conventional weapons, as these are presented in the
literature.
Keywords:
historiography, disarmament, nuclear powers, institutional approach, arms’
reduction and limitation, regime of non-proliferation, anti-ballistic missile defense.
