Communication patterns of the technical university lecturers in contemporary Moscow

The paper analyzes the lecturer—student communication by typology of styles in the teaching intercourse and in forming the communication patterns. It proposes a model for studying communications in the higher education system based on identification of the social and communicative expectations of both the parties. The constructed conceptual model is the basis for conducting in-depth semi-formalized interviews with lecturers from the Moscow technical universities. In the process of empirical research, communication patterns (styles of the teaching intercourse) were identified, their characteristic features were determined, and their effectiveness was compared. Besides, reasons for their occurrence were revealed. The following communicative patterns were identified: official business, friendly, intimidating (suppressing) and indifferent (neutral). Based on the study results, characteristic features of each of the above patterns were formulated according to the following parameters: student image, expectations, feedback, form of addressing, taboo topics, reflection, etc.
