The paper considers the problems of socialization actual for current scientific knowledge. The existing scientific meanings of the concept "social" are given. The author’s understanding of socialization resources and their classification are presented. The status of socialization resource as an independent scientific category and a sphere of scientific knowledge are revealed. The existing scientific interpretations of the key concepts discussed in the article are described. The content of the article is based on the author’s concept of individual’s socialization as a process of self-organization due to the social environment. The functions of the external environment are highlighted in accordance with the resource approach underlying the author’s concept of individual’s socialization. The advantage of the resource approach to socialization overcoming the limitations imposed on its study by the subject-object and subject-subject approaches traditional for pedagogical science is proved. Possible prospects for the development of a resource approach to socialization at the individual’s and society level are identified.
