The paper thoroughly investigates intra-family conflicts in the Moscow Rurikovichi (Kalitichi) family, which led to many years of military confrontation. A clear, detailed and consistent history of the dramatic events is presented, which received no unified definition in the modern science. The main result of long and cruel rivalry was the final approval of power inheritance principle in the direct descending line from father to son. In addition to the Grand Duke title, Vasily II’s eldest son Ivan was awarded with the larger share of inheritance, which provided him with real superiority over his younger brothers, i.e. possible rivals in the struggle for power. Moreover, during his lifetime, the 12-year-old Ivan Vasilyevich became the co-ruler of his father.
