The article deals with the issue of nuclear disarmament in contemporary Russian historiography. The author points out the three main branches of studying the genesis and development of the problem, which depend on the specific character of researchers' scientific background and the fact of being involved in consulting governmental bodies. A historical outlook is shown in relation to other social, technical and military sciences, as well as national features of managing the disarmament in the USSR/Russia and the United States. The article gives an insight into the correlation between disarmament, nonproliferation and development of conventional weapons, as these are presented in the literature.
