The purpose of the research was to analyze the most important approaches to studying giftedness introduced in recent decades in Russian and foreign psychology. Research findings show that the theoretical developments of giftedness that we consider in this paper go back to three different lines in the philosophical foundations of the psychological concept of giftedness: Democritus, Aristotle and Platonic. Having comparatively analyzed Russian and foreign approaches, we revealed similarities and differences in the theoretical developments of this phenomenon both in domestic and foreign traditions.
