The image of a woman-mother in Soviet periodicals: sociocultural aspect (based on materials from newspapers in the Tyumen region of the 1940–1960s)

The post-war years became a period of demographic crisis for the USSR. The decline in the population was threatening and required immediate action by the state. In this regard, until the 1960s one of the priority directions for the Soviet periodicals was the formation of a positive image of a woman-mother. The paper describes the foundations of state policy in relation to mothers with many children. On the materials of newspapers of the Tyumen region, forms of propaganda of motherhood are revealed. An analysis of the components of the image of a woman-mother will make it possible to comprehend the main advantages and disadvantages of the ideological attitudes used and will help modern media to avoid mistakes in the formation of a socially significant vector of reproductive behavior of modern youth.
