The paper uncovers the relations between the category of mentality, which is comparatively new for the Russian philosophy, and traditional categories of social philosophy, such as world outlook, public consciousness, national character, way of thinking, ideology, social psychology and the spiritual world. The study shows that the concept of mentality and concepts of traditional categories stated above have both correlating and non-correlating fields. The features of ideology forming the upper level of public consciousness, and the features of social psychology forming its lower level are the components of mentality, while the elements of consciousness that are common for all people in both quantitative and qualitative terms do not constitute the concept of mentality. Besides the features of consciousness, mentality also consists of personal features of the subject of mentality, such as specific characteristics of temper, character, intelligence. The way of thinking and the national character are the components of mentality. Mentality and mind-set are synonyms
