The problem of tolerance is conventionally multifaceted for the Russian society. Therefore the author draws our attention to methodological analysis of the concept. The evolution of this notion in social cognition is analyzed according to Zolotukhin concept, as well as the stages of its development. The author concludes that the level of tolerance among young people depends not only on state structures or public organizations, but on the system of education and upbringing.
