Keywords: the Second World War, historiography, falsification of history, foreign policy, fascist aggression, policy of appeasement, the Soviet-German non-aggression pact

The article analyses foreign historiography of the origin of the Second World War. It reviews the most significant works by German, English, French and American historians devoted to the history of pre-war international relations and USSR foreign policy. The author refutes the prevalent in western literature thesis on "equal responsibility" of Germany and the Soviet Union for outbreak of the Second World War.
