Implementing an introductory training course in English phonetics into the English language teaching programmes at Technical Universities

The article considers and substantiates the necessity and possibility of making an Introductory Training Course in Phonetics part of the English Language Programmes at technical universities; analyzes the challenges encountered by teachers of foreign languages when making students familiar with the fundamentals of Theoretical Phonetics and putting the theoretical knowledge into practice; contains a brief overview of learning aids and phonetic courses which might be partially used during in-class studies and student self-training; offers an approach to mastering pronunciation and improving the speech perception for the purpose of perfecting the students' communication skills.
